Associate Software Engineer

Location: Upaya Head Office, Thapagau, Kathmandu

We’re looking for an Associate Software Engineer with hands-on Laravel experience to join our web development team. You’ll work on day-to-day development tasks, bug fixes, and feature implementation under the guidance of senior engineers, while building toward more ownership over time.

What You’ll Do:

● Build and maintain features in Laravel
● Fix bugs and handle assigned tickets in a timely manner
● Write clean, readable code following our team’s existing conventions
● Collaborate with senior developers, QA, and product on task clarification and testing
● Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback

What We’re Looking For:

● 1+ year of hands-on experience with Laravel (PHP)
● Solid understanding of MVC architecture, Eloquent ORM, and RESTful APIs
● Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and writing efficient queries
● Understanding of Git for version control
● Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals
● Willingness to learn, take feedback well, and grow within the team
● Good communication and ability to ask for help when stuck, rather than staying blocked silently

Nice to Have:

● Exposure to any frontend framework (Vue, React, or similar)
● Basic understanding of testing (unit tests, PHPUnit)

● Using AI tools to help write code is fine, but all code, regardless of how it was written, must follow our coding standards and pass through our normal PR review process. You’re accountable for code you submit, understanding it, testing it, and being able to explain and defend it in review.
