I came to Kathmandu from Sindhupalchowk with a simple goal — to work hard, earn honestly, and support my family. I worked wherever I could, first at a driving center and later serving food in a restaurant. The days were long and exhausting, but I kept going because my family depended on me.
Then life changed suddenly when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I left my job to stay beside her through hospital visits and chemotherapy sessions. Emotionally and financially, it was one of the hardest times of our lives. There were days when I truly didn’t know how we would move forward.
But I couldn’t give up while my mother was fighting so hard herself.
As her health slowly improved, I got the opportunity to join Upaya as an intern and that opportunity changed my life. Today, I work as an associate, support my mother, and still be there for her when she needs me. I’m learning new skills, understanding different departments, and for the first time, I can see a future for myself here.
Upaya didn’t just give me a job. It gave me stability, confidence, and hope when life felt fragile.
