Senior QA Engineer / QA Lead

Location: Upaya Head Office, Thapagau, Kathmandu

We’re looking for a Senior QA Engineer to take full ownership of quality across our engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll set strategy, build the automation foundation, and mentor a small existing QA team, with direct accountability for the quality of our small to large platforms, used daily by thousands of end users across multiple user roles.

If you’ve built a QA process, framework, or team from a starting point before, this is exactly the role.

What You’ll Own:

● Test strategy. Decide what gets tested, how, and in what order of priority across multiple concurrent projects, based on risk and business impact
● Automation. Design and build our test automation framework from the ground up, starting with the critical workflows along with tools and technologies
● Release quality gates. Define what “ready to ship” means,
● Bug triage and process. Establish a consistent severity and priority framework so the team isn’t firefighting reactively
● Support ticket to QA feedback loop. Own the process for turning recurring support and user-reported issues into structured, trackable bugs, feeding real-world failure patterns back into test coverage and release checks
● Team leadership. Mentor and grow our existing QA team.
● Cross-functional partnership. Work directly with developers and product to catch issues at the design and PR stage. Engage with end users, operations heads, merchants, finance officers, and riders to understand real-world usage patterns and trends.

What We’re Looking For:

● 6+ years in QA, with at least 1 to 2 years in a role where you owned strategy or process, not just execution
● Hands-on experience building test automation frameworks from scratch (tell us what tool, why, and what broke)
● Comfortable defining processes and making decisions. This is a build-it role, not a maintain-it role
● Experience working on products with real operational stakes (marketplace, logistics, fintech, or similar) is a strong plus
● Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and elevate subordinates.
● ISTQB certification or equivalent practical depth is a plus, not a requirement
